NEW DELHI: In the biggest single-day increase in cases since the start of the pandemic, India on Wednesday reported nearly 2.5 lakh fresh infections, 50,000 more than the previous day’s count, even as The tally crossed the 2 lakh mark. For the first time since May 26

Despite a steady rise in the daily count, deaths remain at a much lower level than the figures reported during the second wave. The cases crossed 2 lakh for the first time on April 14 during the second wave. There were 896 deaths that day. While there has been a steady rise in deaths over the past few days, the cumulative toll in the last seven days is 81% higher than the previous week.
Comparative international data shows that India is once again among the most affected countries in the world in the ongoing surge in global cases.
