Covid-19: India’s total vaccine coverage is over 124 crore, says health ministry

New Delhi The Union Health Ministry informed late on Tuesday that the total COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 124 crore.

More than 72 lakh vaccine doses were given till 7 pm on Tuesday.

The ministry further said that the daily vaccination numbers are expected to increase with the compilation of the final report for the day by late night.

The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, with healthcare workers being vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from March 1 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

The country began vaccination for all people over the age of 45 from 1 April. The government then decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1.
