To prevent the spread of COVID-19 indoors, a physical distancing guideline of two meters is not enough without a mask, according to researchers in Quebec, Illinois and Texas. The findings of the study were published in the journal ‘Building and Environment’. Wearing a mask indoors can reduce the contamination limit for airborne particulates by about 67 percent. In this study, researchers found that when people are masked, more than 70 percent of airborne particles cross the two-meter threshold within 30 seconds. In contrast, less than 1 percent of particles cross the two-metre mark when a mask is worn.
