COVID Vaccination: More than 170 crore doses have been administered in India so far

The Union Health Ministry on Monday said that over 170 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country and further added that more than 50 lakh doses were administered today itself.

Also more than 1.52 crore precautionary doses have been administered to healthcare workers, frontline workers and people aged 60 years and above with comorbidities.

The countrywide vaccination drive was launched on January 16 last year, in which health workers (HCWs) were vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers (FLWs) began on February 2 last year.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from March 1, 2021 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions

The country started vaccination for all people over the age of 45 from April 1, 2021.

Following this, the government decided to expand its immunization campaign by allowing everyone above the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1 last year.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from January 3 this year for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years.

India began giving precautionary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers, including personnel deployed for election duty and those aged 60 years and above, with comorbidities in the country from January 10, the Omicron version of the coronavirus fueled by Seeing a spike in infections. ,
