The conference was held in a hybrid format at Santa Margherita Ligure in Italy late Thursday.

Noting that India is witnessing a rapid transition from women’s development to women-led development, the Minister of Women and Child Development said that the country has adopted a multi-pronged approach in its strategy that promotes gender justice and equality. and enables full expression and participation of women. in public life.

He said that the socio-economic discourse of the country is committed to eliminate all forms of discrimination, harm and violence against women.

He said that the government is ready to launch Mission Shakti, an integrated program for the empowerment of women.

Acknowledging the importance of security as a basic requirement for the empowerment of women, he said that the government has particularly focused on the safety of women.

“There are 704 one-stop crisis centers in our country actively providing medical, legal, psychosocial, police and shelter support to women facing violence or distress in an integrated manner under one common roof,” Irani said.

He said there is a dedicated toll-free helpline for women which provides round the clock security on an easy to remember short code, 181.

“Together, one-stop crisis centers and women helplines have helped 5.7 million (57 lakh) women in my country till date.

“India is implementing plans and projects worth more than USD 1.25 billion to protect women as a fundamental facilitator of women’s empowerment under the Nirbhaya framework. Enabling institutional deliveries for poor women, the Indian government directly transfers money to the bank accounts of pregnant and lactating women,” Irani said.

The G20 Conference on Women’s Empowerment recognized shared objectives and shared responsibilities to advance the goals of equality and development for women and girls in all fields, including STEM, financial and digital literacy, the environment and sustainability.
