Manchester: Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice on Manchester United’s second debut and his compatriot Bruno Fernandes created a ruckus as the Red Devils beat Newcastle United 4-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.
Ronaldo, who returned to United from Juventus last month, opened the scoring at the stroke of halftime, bouncing from close range after Newcastle keeper Freddie Woodman made a low drive off Mason Greenwood.
Javier Manquillo brought Newcastle level with a short right foot drive in the 56th minute when Miguel Almiron led a sharp counter from the visitors.
Ronaldo restored United’s lead in his second – showing power and speed as he caught a ball from Luke Shaw and fired it through Woodman’s legs and celebrated with his teammates in front of a spirited Stratford End Off to celebrate.
Fernandes ensured three points in spectacular fashion 10 minutes from time, collecting a square ball from Paul Pogba and deflecting an unassailable shot from 25 meters that spun into the top corner.
Substitute Jesse Lingard added to the celebration with a well-taken shot from inside the box after a fine work from Pogba.
Bernardo Silva scores in Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Leicester
Leicester: Bernardo Silva scored the lone goal as Manchester City climbed to second place in the table behind rivals Manchester United after a crucial 1-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
Leicester defender Jannik Vestergaard missed a golden opportunity from an early corner but could not find a clean connection on his header and it went over the bar. City striker Ferran Torres had several good chances in the first half but Kasper Schmeichel managed to avert the threat.
Jamie Vardy was denied a goal for four minutes in the second half, but it was Manchester City who eventually broke the deadlock as Silva pounced on a loose ball in the box to set the house on fire in the 62nd minute .
Leicester went ahead in search of an equalizer and Kelechi Ihenacho and Ademola Lukman both went close, but Ederson was alert and went out of his line to make the save.
Manchester City moved to second place after four games with nine points, ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion on goal difference and one point behind Manchester United.
Lukaku, Kovacic break Stamford Bridge ducks
London: Romelu Lukaku and Matteo Kovacic scored their first goals at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea beat Aston Villa 3-0 on Saturday to lift joint top of the standings with Manchester United on their 600th Premier League win.
Lukaku, who previously played for United, Everton and West Bromwich Albion, never scored on the field – even during his first spell with Chelsea. But when he opened the scoring he went off the mark in his 15th appearance at the stadium.
In the 15th minute, Kovacic overtook Villa’s midfield and freed Lukaku with a ball, splitting the Away side’s defense. The Belgian striker sent off defender Axel Tuanzebe the wrong way before finding the bottom corner.

Kovacic etched his name on the scoresheet three minutes into the second half, when the Croatian midfielder bounced off a poor back pass from Tyrone Mings, doubling the lead for incoming goalkeeper Jade Steer.
Lukaku got his second in stoppage time when Cesar Azpilicueta found the striker on the edge of the box, where he struck with a left foot leaving Steer no chance.
Villa had chances to score, but Edouard Mendy had a brilliant game in goal, making several saves for Thomas Tuchel’s side to ensure their third clean sheet in four games.
