The season of Margazhi was important for the Tamils. All forms of music, be it hymns or folk or other forms, were similar to each other. They were all equally important and connected with the people equally, said film director Pa. Ranjit said at the Margaziyil Makkalisai Music Festival.
Margazhiyil Makkalisai Music Festival was organized for the first time in Madurai on Saturday. The program was well received and there was a huge crowd of music lovers. Addressing the media persons, Ranjit said that the objective of the sangeet festival is to provide a platform to the artists to showcase their talent.
When the Neelam Cultural Center organized the first edition of the music festival in Chennai in 2020, it was well received and the event was a huge success. But, people asked why the event happened only in Chennai.
After the success of the program in Chennai, we plan to continue with the concert. Last year’s events saw new talent emerge and we decided to take this event to other cities as well. This year concerts were being organized in Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai to take the concept to more cities. He said that the programs would focus on identifying local talent and connecting music with the people.
Rapper, lyricist and playback singer Arivu briefed media persons about the schedule of Margazhiyil Makkalisai concerts in three cities. Senior artists will be honored at music festivals.
