Crypto Cup: Rameshbabu Pragyanand beats World Champion Magnus Carlsen

The young and talented 17-year-old Grandmaster, Rameshbabu Pragyanand created history by winning three consecutive games and defeating five-time world chess champion, Magnus Carlsen, at the FTX Crypto Cup, the US finale of the Champions Chess Tour in Miami.

It is worth noting that this is the third time in six months that Rameshbabu Pragyananand defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen.

Carlsen was almost winning the game when he made a big mistake against the Indian Grandmaster when he was on the point of forcing Armageddon. Pragyananand took advantage of this opportunity to beat them in a tie-breaker.

Magnus Carlsen could not believe that Pragyananand beat him again. Although Carlsen won the Crypto Cup by scoring high marks, Pragyananand finished second.

In February this year, Pragyananand won a staggering acclaim over world number one Carlson in an online championship. He achieved the worldwide master title at age 10, the youngest to do so, and attained the title of grandmaster at age 12, the second youngest to achieve it.

The Crypto Cup tournament started on a high note for Pragyananand with four consecutive wins with a thumping 3-1 victory over Levon Aronian. In the fifth round, the winning horse of the Indian Grandmaster was stopped by Kwang Lim Le of China. He was defeated again in the sixth round by Jan-Krzysztof Duda of Poland in a tie-breaker.

Pragyananand was born on 10 August 2005 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is the younger brother of Woman Grandmaster and International Master R Vaishali. His father is employed as a branch supervisor in TNSC Bank, and his mother is a homemaker. He studies in Velammal Nexus School, Chennai.
