Even though it was one of the ‘corrective’ steps suggested under the National Policy on Education (NEP) 2020, The entrance exam was considered controversial, There was also a debate about CUCET, where many academics claimed that the exam could be for the upper class and would promote a coaching culture.

Expressing his concern over this, Rajesh Jha, a former member of the Executive Council of DU, said that CUCET PRO IS ELITE CLASS and would exclude regional students and indicate that it would not be inclusive.

Jha had tweeted, “Centralized examination system like CUCET will bias in favor of upper class and upper caste and adverse to those studying in their mother tongue. Those who have access to coaching and better resources will dominate. A good admissions policy should be inclusive.”

Even DU candidates had called Exam “hypocrisy” Since the board exams have been canceled and conducting CUCET would mean lakhs of students appearing for the written exam, increasing the chances of a third wave of covid. However, the exam was postponed to 2021. Now, the ministry has confirmed that the exam will be conducted this year.
