Curfew, internet shutdown in parts of Kashmir including Bhaderwah, Kishtwar

Jammu Kashmir Curfew: Parts of Kashmir, including Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar, witnessed internet suspension, curfew and shutdown over controversial remarks by two now-suspended BJP leaders against Prophet Mohammad. Officials said the internet has been shut down as a precaution.

He said security forces have been deployed at sensitive places in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley to maintain law and order. Public transport on the roads remained completely closed in the old city, known as Downtown Srinagar.

However, traffic continued in Lal Chowk, Batamaloo and adjoining areas with offices and schools remaining open.

Union Minister and local MP Jitendra Singh appealed to elders and community heads to sit together to resolve the issue and maintain harmony.

According to officials, tension flared up in Bhaderwah area on Thursday evening after the now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made an alleged inflammatory speech during a protest against the derogatory remarks made against Prophet Mohammad.
