Governor-designate of West Bengal CV Anand Bose reached Kolkata on Tuesday. He will take oath as Governor on Wednesday.

Mr Bose was received by state ministers Shashi Panja and Firhad Hakim, along with top officials of the state government, Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goel. He was given a guard of honor at the airport before being taken to the Raj Bhavan.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke to Mr. Bose over telephone and conveyed her best wishes for being nominated to the highest constitutional office in the state. On Wednesday, along with the Chief Minister, other dignitaries including Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari and Assembly Speaker Biman Bose will attend the swearing-in ceremony, which is likely to be held at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata. The Governor will be administered the oath by Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Prakash Srivastava.

Mr Bose will take over from L Ganesan, who took over on July 18 when Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected the Vice-President of India. Shri Dhankhar was the Governor of West Bengal From July 30, 2019 – to July 18, 2022,

Shri Bose is a former Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1977 batch, who has served as Secretary to the Government of India and Chief Secretary to State Governments as well as Vice-Chancellor of the University. He belongs to West Bengal and served as the administrator of the National Museum in Kolkata before retiring in 2011.

The appointment comes at a time when serious differences have emerged between the Raj Bhavan and the state government in several states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Until recently, a similar standoff between the Raj Bhavan and the state government was witnessed in West Bengal as well.
