CWG 2022: John Cena posts after lifter Sanket Sargar wins silver at Birmingham 2022

India’s Sanket Sargar on Saturday won a silver medal in the men’s 55kg weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Maharashtra-born athlete’s stellar performance received many words of praise. A shocking message came from WWE Superstar and actor John Cena. Cena posted a picture of Sanket on Instagram.

This is not the first time that Cena has shown interest in an Indian sports personality. Earlier, Cena had posted pictures of cricketers M S Dhoni And Virat Kohli On Instagram.

Coming back to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Sanket, with a total of 248 kg, finished second as Malaysian weightlifter Anik Mohamed claimed the gold medal. Aeek won the gold medal by lifting a total of 249 kg. Sri Lankan weightlifter Dilanka Yodge finished third to earn a bronze medal in the event.

Sanket Sargar started the snatch event brilliantly after lifting 113 kg. Sanket lifted 135 kg in his first attempt in the clean and jerk event. Sanket failed to lift 139kg in his next two attempts, but that didn’t stop him from clinching the silver medal. He also suffered an elbow injury in the clean and jerk event, which could have hurt his chances of winning the gold medal.

Sanket became the national champion in the game India Youth Games and Khelo India University Games in 2020. He was one of the favorite sportspersons of India to win the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Sanket is currently the national level defending champion in the 55kg category. Earlier this year, he made a stellar performance at the Singapore Weightlifting International tournament to seal his berth at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. He had set a new national and Commonwealth record in Singapore and earned a gold medal. Overall, he had lifted 256 kg. In the snatch category, Sanket lifted 113 kg and later improved his performance to lift 146 kg in the clean and jerk segment.

India has so far managed to win three gold medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. At the end of the third day, the Indian contingent found itself sixth in the medal tally. India won two silver and one bronze medal along with three gold medals.
