DA hike news: Dearness allowance hiked by 3% for central government employees India Business News – Times of India

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a hike of 3 per cent in dearness allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) given to Central Government employees and pensioners.
With this, the DA of such employees has now gone up to 31 percent from the earlier 28 percent.
This hike will come into effect from July 1, 2021.
Giving information to the media, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that it will directly benefit 47.14 lakh central government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners.
The minister said the increase in DA and DR would put an additional annual burden of Rs 9,488.7 crore on the exchequer.
In July, the Center increased the DA from 17 per cent to 28 per cent after a long gap of nearly a year.
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Center had put on hold three additional installments of DA and DR, which were due from January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021.
Thakur also congratulated the citizens of the country for crossing the 100 crore immunization mark.
“All citizens, especially those at the forefront, are concerned about the huge contribution of this Covid warriors. I congratulate all of them,” he said.
