Hero MotoSports Team Rally ended Stage 7 with a strong finish as both its riders put their best foot forward. Joaquim Rodrigues continued his stellar run and made the most of the rest day after stage 6 to finish the stage on P6, where he injured his back. Meanwhile, teammate Aaron Mare led a pack of 4-5 riders during Stage 7 through a long stretch of heavy dust and rocks. However, due to a navigation error at the end of the stage, the rider lost time and eventually finished 18th in the RallyGP class. The only Indian in Dakar 2022, Harith Noah moved up to P23 at the end of Stage 7.

Aaron Mare made a minor navigation error causing him to fall to P18 at the end of Stage 7

In the overall rankings, Hero MotoSports has maintained its strong position, with Jerrod and Mare at 16th and 17th position respectively. Noah is placed 27th in the overall standings. The seventh phase of the 2022 Dakar Rally began in the capital Riyadh and included a special phase of over 400 km and an additional 300 km of connectivity, before culminating at the biennial in Al Dawdimi. The riders navigated through steep sections, but there was no track to walk in a lot of places due to heavy rain that completely washed them out.

The RallyGP class was led by Jose Cornejo who led Stage 7 for Monster Energy Honda. Red Bull KTM Factory Team’s Kevin Benavides joined P2 with the rider, while Honda’s Joan Barreda Bort finished +2m51s third from the stage leader. In the overall rankings, Monster Energy Yamaha’s Adrian van Bevren leads the moto category, followed by the Red Bull KTM duo of Mathias Walkner and Kevin Benavides. The next stage will be the longest overall stage of Dakar 2022 at 828 km, with around 400 km of racing and the rest in contact sections.
