Dalit sisters found hanging from tree in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri

Two girls were found hanging from a tree today in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Two sisters were found hanging from a tree this afternoon in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Both the girls were minors and belonged to a Dalit family. His mother told reporters that he was kidnapped by people on a motorcycle. The bodies are being sent for postmortem and heavy police force has been deployed in the area.

“The site is being inspected by senior officers of the district. Nighasan police immediately reached the spot on information and action is being taken to send the bodies for post-mortem as per rules. Legal action will be taken based on the investigation of the matter,” The local police said in a Hindi statement.

Lucknow Range Inspector General of Police Laxmi Singh said, “The girls were found hanging from their own dupatta. There were no injury marks on the body.” He said the postmortem would be done by a panel of experts. “Based on what the family tells us in their complaint, we will file an FIR,” he said.

It is near the UP area where farmers were allegedly crushed to death by an SUV driven by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra during a protest against the Centre’s agricultural laws in October last year.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party has criticized the Uttar Pradesh government and attacked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over women’s safety in the state.
