The average rate of daily COVID-19 vaccination in India in the last 11 days of August was Highest since drive began in January. However, this is still less than the rate required to vaccinate all adults by December 31. For all adults to be vaccinated by 2021, an average of 10.04 million doses are to be given daily for the remaining days. Between 21 August and 31 August, an average of 6.22 million doses were administered in the country, compared to 5.7 million daily doses between 11 and 20 August. Average daily doses administered in several major states, including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, increased in the last 11 days of August.

The seven-day rolling average of administered daily doses rose sharply in the last 10 days of August and reached 8.37 million per day on 31 August.

As of September 1, 16.2% of the country’s adult population had been fully vaccinated, while 54% had received at least one dose. In eight states, less than 15% of adults had received both doses of the vaccine.
