The chart shows the share of anemic children in rural areas of a State/UT in NFHS5 as against the share of such children in urban areas. The prevalence of anemia was relatively higher among children from rural and urban areas in the shaded area states. More than 60% of children in rural and urban areas were anemic.

According to NFHS-5, the map shows the state-wise percentage of children aged 6-59 months who were anemic. Nine out of 36 states/UTs accounted for more than 70% of the anemic children. Kerala was the only state where the share was less than 40%. Gujarat had the highest share of children (79.7%) aged 6–59 months who were anemic in the NFHS-5.

The map shows the state-wise change in the number of children aged 6-59 months in NFHS-5 as compared to NFHS-4. Assam, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh recorded the highest growth. The share of anemic children fell in only four states. Among the major states, Chhattisgarh has recorded the highest increase in the share of anemic children in NFHS-5 as compared to NFHS-4.
