The Indian contingent will make its debut at the Senior World Championships this year. The cyclists made their way into the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham after a busy international schedule, in which they had to move from race to race in search of ranking points to qualify for the CWG.

Ronaldo Latonjam, David Beckham Alcatochungo, Y Rojit Singh, and Aso Alban have been India’s much-anticipated crop of young cyclists, trying to make themselves and the country proud in a sport that is more popular in the sub-continent. Not there. While the first two in particular have been in the limelight for their namesake, the entire squad has proved their worth in the junior category.

The youth were thrown into the shallow waters of the Commonwealth Games, and making the dangerous transition into the senior category was not easy. In the CWG, young cyclists could not perform to their true potential as they may have been overwhelmed by this huge opportunity. Fierce competition from British, Australian and Malaysian cyclists quickly forced them out of the Games. However, the experience of elite competition would have prepared him better for the World Championships.

In June, Indian cyclists won medals at the Asian Championships. Ronaldo Lattenjam, David Beckham and Rojit Singh jointly won the bronze medal for the country in the men’s team sprint. Ronaldo took an individual bronze in the men’s 1km time trial and silver in the individual sprint, an astonishing timing.
