David Beckham finally in line for knighthood after settling his finances

Former England captain David Beckham is understood to have been formally nominated and added to the official list of recommendations for knighthood for next June. After a long-running financial dispute that saw the 46-year-old embroiled in a tax-avoidance scheme, the Manchester United and Three Lions icon is finally eligible to be sir, ending a decade-long wait for the honour.

Beckham was caught in the simple tax avoidance scheme and blacklisted by the Inland Revenue. Since he was transferred to the Red Category by the Inland Revenue, he was disqualified from all honor recognition. However, in August, the company won a multimillion-pound appeal against HMRC, and Beckham’s representatives met with tax officials to settle their accounts.

According to a source, as reported Sun, “In 2013, the only reason David was cited for being overlooked for knighthood was tax rigging. Now that it’s clear, there’s no reason for him not to be honored.”

David’s contribution to England is well documented. This included on-field valor such as a miraculous goal against Greece that qualified him for the 2002 World Cup and his off-field assists such as in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The father of four, who have raised more than £50 million for the charity, is considered to be on the official recommendation list, meaning he has been satisfactorily vetted and is eligible for recognition. The Honors Committee, led by Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, will now decide whether to formally endorse her candidacy for the Queen’s birthday honors in June. Victoria Beckham, his wife and former Spice Girl member, will be called Lady Beckham.

The family of the late national hero Captain Sir Moore praised the move to move Beckham to the green category, praising his “mercy” for war veterans. Moore’s daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore, co-founder of The Captain Tom Foundation, said: “We are delighted that David is finally in line to receive a knighthood – something he so fully deserves.”
