The Delhi University (DU) campus was buzzing with activity on the first day of the academic session on Wednesday, with excitement as well as panic among students as they turned the page to a new chapter in their lives.
The academic session of the first year students of DU started from Wednesday.
Many colleges organize orientation programs to make the new batch of students aware of the syllabus, committees and committees.
Some students were thrilled and some were nervous. Many of them were accompanied by their parents.
Nehal, who took admission in History (Hons) at Ramjas College, was accompanied by his mother on the first day on campus.
“Ramjas was not my first choice but I am not complaining as it is a good college. This is the first time I am going to DU campus. Some of my friends have also taken admission in the college. It will be a good experience, Nehal, who goes by her first name, said.
Haryana’s Garima Rajput, who took admission in Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), was excited and hopeful about her new journey.
“It’s a big day for me. I am pursuing B.Com Hons. The college is famous. The campus is beautiful,” she said.
“We have to submit documents on the first day of college and then there is an orientation programme. I don’t think there will be any classes on the first day,” Rajput said.
Colleges were decorated with posters to welcome the freshers. Members of student organizations such as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) were seen helping the new students.
Nehal and Rajput are among thousands of students who took admission in DU on the basis of their Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores.
Though admissions to 70,000 seats in various DU colleges are still going on, the academic year for the first semester students has started from Wednesday.
Speaking to PTI on Tuesday, DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh had said that the university was all set for the start of the new academic year and arrangements were made to ensure the availability of all facilities for the students.
Singh said, “We are all set to conduct classes for the first year students. This year, we have entered through CUET and are implementing the National Education Policy. It is a different policy and the students will have more flexibility.”
From this academic year, DU is implementing NEP and four-year undergraduate programme.
