This comes days after AIADMK expelled Panneerselvam from the primary membership of the party.

AIADMK’s interim general secretary K Palaniswami on Thursday expelled O Panneerselvam’s sons and 16 other supporters of the ousted leader from the party. Panneerselvam’s two sons, the party’s Lok Sabha members from Theni constituency, Rabindranath and Jayapradeep, as well as former minister Velamandi N Natarajan, were expelled.

Former MLAs and MPs are also among the 15 others who were expelled from the party. In a party release, Palaniswami said the move was a disciplinary action and all 18 of them had acted against the party’s interests, principles and brought defamation to the organisation.

This comes days after the AIADMK expelled Panneerselvam from the primary membership of the party. A resolution was passed in the AIADMK General Council meeting on Monday accusing Panneerselvam of favoring the DMK regime and having links with ruling leaders and working to weaken the party.

Palaniswami was elected interim general secretary of the party. A day later, he announced the appointment of two senior leaders and former ministers KP Munusamy and Natham R Viswanathan as deputy general secretaries of the party.
