The Congress party has alleged that spurious liquor was transported from Puducherry due to negligence on the part of the government, resulting in the death of over a dozen people who consumed it in neighboring districts of Tamil Nadu.

When asked the reason for the sudden removal of T. Sudhakar from the post of Deputy Excise Commissioner on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that it is a part of regular administrative change. He said that these administrative changes were about to happen.

Asked whether the government was satisfied with the working of the excise department, the chief minister said, “The department has collected a revenue of over Rs 1,300 crore so far in this financial year.” He declined to comment further on the issue.
