According to the data released by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), even the thermal power generation across the country was down by 3.64 per cent till October 13 of 2021-22.

Interestingly, the power generation in the eastern region grew by 8.48 per cent during the same period as compared to other regions, which recorded a decline of around 5 per cent, the CEA data said.

In fact, in the eastern region, thermal power generation also increased by 9.54 per cent and generation from water sources by about one per cent, despite coal shortages causing power crisis in many areas, the CEA said.

Till October 13 of the current financial year, power generation in the northern region was 5.1 per cent lower while thermal power generation was lower by 6.45 per cent.

Similarly, in the western region also there has been a decline of 5.06 per cent in power generation, while thermal power generation has also registered a decline of 4.79 per cent.

The data for the southern region shows that the total generation has declined by 5.10 per cent while the thermal power generation has also declined by 9.81 per cent.
