Delhi: 64% COVID deaths among non-vaccinated people, people with comorbidities

Noting that 64% of the COVID deaths in Delhi have been observed among unvaccinated people and people with comorbidities, the Center on Thursday described vaccination as an important weapon against coronavirus.

As per today’s data only from Delhi, 64% of the deaths we have seen are among the non-vaccinated and those with co-morbidities. NCDC Director Dr SK Singh while addressing a press conference said that people who do not get vaccinated and are sick form a very high risk group.

Meanwhile, ICMR DG Dr Balram Bhargava described vaccination as one of the most important weapons against COVID-19. “The vaccine shows the ability to reduce death compared to vaccinated individuals, so it significantly reduces death in vaccinated people compared to unvaccinated people,” he said.

Bhargava further urged the states to increase the vaccination rate where it is low. “We have reached 95 percent of the first dose and 74 percent of the fully vaccinated adult population in the country, but there are some states where immunization is low and so I would urge those states to take their vaccinations and their vaccinations. Speed up because it is the most important weapon that we have or the shield that we have against COVID-19,” he said.

He emphasized that there are enough vaccines available in the country and hence it should be promoted in every way possible.

He further said that people with comorbidities should be more careful and should definitely avoid large gatherings and ensure that they do not get the infection. “Because the outcome is not as good among comrades,” he said.
