New Delhi:

Official sources said today that the Delhi government has sought a detailed report from the BJP-ruled civic bodies on the demolition drive being carried out by them across the city from April 1.

This comes days after several anti-encroachment drives were conducted by the three civic bodies in different parts of the city including Shaheen Bagh, Jahangirpuri Madanpur Khadar, New Friends Colony, Mangolpuri, Rohini, Gokulpuri, Lodhi Colony, Janakpuri.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with all AAP MLAs at his residence on Monday and asked them to oppose such demolition drives by BJP-ruled municipalities.

Mr Kejriwal had said the demolition drive in Delhi would leave 63 lakh people homeless and would be the “biggest catastrophe” in independent India, and accused the BJP of “misusing” power.

The ruling AAP and the BJP are in intense competition over the campaign that has gained momentum with Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta writing a letter to the MCD on April 20 to “remove the illegal encroachment of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in the city”. Was caught

North MCD launched an anti-encroachment drive using bulldozers a few days after communal sections were sighted in Jahangirpuri area. Later South MCD also started anti-encroachment drive.

Gupta has insisted that the campaign will continue and accused the AAP of protecting the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis for political gains.
