Delhi government seizes 270 old diesel, petrol vehicles between October 1 and 20

The transport department of the Delhi government has seized 270 diesel and petrol-powered vehicles between October 1-20, 2021. The drive to implement this rule started from last year but from January to October 2021, the transport department has seized 664 vehicles which include diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years. The PTI report also said that a senior official of the Transport Department has said that the process of scrapping more than 300 of these vehicles has started.

Although the Certificate of Registration (RC) of all types of vehicles are valid for 15 years, diesel vehicles cannot run for more than 10 years in Delhi.

The department had earlier issued a public notice and advised owners of petrol and diesel vehicles, aged 15 years and 10 years respectively, not to ply on the roads and to cancel them at authorized centres. The department has also clarified that though the registration certificate (RC of all types of vehicles) is valid for 15 years, diesel vehicles in Delhi cannot run for more than 10 years.

According to official figures released by the government, 132 diesel and 262 petrol cars were seized by the transport department in September.
