To make Delhi the “Electric Vehicle Capital of India”, the city government has decided to build electric vehicle charging stations in all government offices in the national capital which will be ready in three months. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that government employees will be able to charge their electric vehicles (EVs) during working hours.

He said, “Electric vehicles are being promoted rapidly across Delhi to implement the vision of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Electric vehicle charging stations are being set up in Delhi at a rapid pace.” He said that these stations would now be set up in all government offices.

The minister said, “Apart from government employees, the general public will also be able to charge their vehicles here…”

According to the order issued by the Delhi government, all the departments under it should identify suitable places and set up public charging stations in their premises. Electric vehicle charging stations will be installed in all government buildings within three months.

It said a subsidy of Rs 6,000 per charging point would be given for setting up of electric vehicle charging stations through a vendor empaneled with the discoms.

The Transport Department has established a single point of contact in association with Delhi Discoms. Single window process can be used to install EV chargers from DISCOM-paneled vendors at lower and lower tariffs.

To promote electric mobility, the Kejriwal government has directed all departments to install EV charging stations in their respective government buildings.

Sales of electric vehicles in Delhi outperformed sales of CNG and diesel vehicles in the September-November quarter, an official statement said.

Electric vehicle sales in Delhi grew by 9.2 percent in September and November 2021. On the other hand, sales of CNG vehicles declined by 6.5 per cent in November. A total of 9,540 electric vehicles were sold during this period. 2,873 vehicles were sold in September, 3,275 in October and 3,392 in November. After fuel-based vehicles on the list, sales of electric vehicles have jumped to the second position.
