Delhi Mayor Poll LIVE: BJP and AAP to lock horns in high octane Rai vs Oberoi MCD tussle today

A total of 150 votes were polled, while Gupta got 116 out of a total of 266 votes.

A fresh mayoral election will be held on Wednesday at the civic center, the headquarters of the MCD.

The post of mayor in the national capital sees five single-year terms in rotation, with the first year reserved for women, the second for the open category, the third for the reserved category and the remaining two again for the open category.

AAP’s Ale Mohammad and BJP’s Soni Pandey, councilor from ward number 249, will fight for the post of Delhi’s deputy mayor. Oberoi and Ale Mohammad Iqbal earlier this month filed their nominations for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor for a second consecutive term, with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party expressing confidence that its candidates are set to win.

Official sources said on 3 April that Oberoi would hold office till the election of a new mayor. PTI The report said.

BJP has also entered the fray and councilor from Greater Kailash-1 ward, senior leader of the party Rai is the candidate for the post of Mayor.

The municipal secretary’s office has received four nominations, two each for the post of mayor and deputy mayor. The last date for filing nominations for the post of mayor was April 18.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has nominated Rai, a second-time corporator, for the post of mayor. Sachdeva has also nominated Soni Pandey, an activist of Purvanchal Morcha and councilor from ward number 249, for the post of deputy mayor.
