The IMD on Friday said that the day was hot in the national capital and the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 21.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season’s average, while the relative humidity ranged between 70 and 17 per cent.

The Meteorological Department has predicted clear skies on Saturday and the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be 38 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius, respectively.

IMD officials said the prolonged drought has led to hot weather conditions in northwest India.

Parts of Delhi witnessed scorching heat on Thursday with the maximum temperature crossing 41 degrees at three places.

The Meteorological Department has predicted severe heatwave at different places between April 3 and 6.

According to the IMD, if the departure from normal temperature is more than 6.4 degrees, a “severe” heatwave is declared.
