Delhi schools to reopen tomorrow for classes 6 and above

The air quality panel said physical classes for students up to class 5 may resume from December 27.

New Delhi:

The Delhi government has decided to open schools for classes 6 and above from tomorrow on the instructions of the Central Air Quality Commission.

A formal order was issued by the government after the air quality started improving in the national capital and it was cleared by the commission.

The Centre’s Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) today said that physical classes in schools (after class 6), colleges, educational institutions, skill development and training institutes, other training institutes and libraries will resume in Delhi NCR with immediate effect. can.

The panel said physical classes for students up to class 5 may resume from December 27 after examining the Air Quality Index (AQI) and winter vacation schedule.

“State governments should adopt a phased approach to reopening in respect of schools, colleges and educational institutions located within the NCR,” an official order said.

Schools and other institutions were closed since November 15 due to the deteriorating air quality in the national capital. They were reopened on November 29, but closed again after the Supreme Court reprimanded the Delhi government amid rising pollution levels.

The decision to reopen them comes after Delhi’s AQI improved from “severe” to “very poor” and the panel argued for an “essential need” to open educational institutions after a large number of representations were received.

Several requests were submitted by students and parents stating that the children have been out of school for almost two years due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has adversely affected their studies.

The panel said that one of the reasons for the resumption of schools was that a large number of students are unable to access online education due to connectivity issues.

Following the directions of the Supreme Court, the Commission has examined the requests of various organizations regarding relaxation of the restrictions imposed.
