New Delhi: Schools in the national capital will reopen in a phased manner from September 1.

A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held on Friday.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday, “All government and private schools, colleges, universities and coaching institutes in Delhi will reopen from September 1 for classes 9 to 12.”

He said that the decision regarding opening of schools for lower classes would be taken after analyzing the impact of reopening of schools for senior classes.

“Classes 6-8 will reopen from September 8,” a source said.

Sisodia said that the students will have to take the permission of the parents to go to the school. No student will be compelled to go to school.

The issue of reopening of schools in Delhi was earlier discussed at a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), which was attended by Lt Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Sisodia among others.

Schools in the national capital were ordered closed in March last year ahead of the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The Delhi government recently announced partial reopening of schools and allowed class X and XII students to attend schools for admission-related tasks, practical activities and counseling sessions.
