Delhi University (DU) will reopen for UG, PG final year students from September 15

As part of its phased reopening plan, Delhi University (DU) has decided to resume practical laboratory sessions for their final year undergraduate and postgraduate students with a maximum of 50% capacity from September 15, the varsity said in a new order on Monday.

However, it has been stated that only a limited number of experiments/practices/practicals can be selected which are considered essential for the semester.

The order further stated that the students are not required to be physically present in the campus and online classes for theory subjects will continue.

The university requires all the teaching and non-teaching staff of all colleges to be fully vaccinated at the earliest. In addition, all students entering campus must be vaccinated with at least one dose.

“While both doses of COVID-19 vaccine are required for hostel students, ensure that residents have at least one dose of the vaccine,” the order read.

It said that if the seating arrangement in the libraries is not adequate as per the Covid protocol, the libraries “may at least allow the issue of books to the students on a regular basis”.

“The colleges/departments/centres may also consider providing periodic appointments to the students before allowing them to visit the library, so as to avoid overcrowding,” it said.

This order has placed the responsibility on the head of the institute to decide whether final year students are allowed to join for the purposes of academic counseling and placement.

“However, it should be ensured that students with more than 50% seating capacity are not present at any point of time,” it said.

“In case of common campus being shared by morning and evening colleges, the principals of both the colleges will work out a favorable timetable and share resources in a better way for smooth conduct of teaching and learning activities,” it added.

The order said that any plan of transition to offline mode should take into account the prevailing circumstances and the specific requirements of the institutions concerned, “allowing it to deal with any eventuality arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic”.

“However, it was also considered necessary to transition to blended (online-offline) mode of teaching and learning in a phased manner keeping safety concerns as top priority,” it read.

phased reopening plan

DU’s acting vice-chancellor PC Joshi had said on Wednesday that the university would reopen in a phased manner as the safety of students was a primary concern.

Following a marked improvement in the COVID situation, the Delhi government last week announced that schools, colleges and coaching institutes for classes 9 to 12 would reopen from September 1.

In the first week of August, DU had issued an official notification announcing that it would conduct physical classes for science stream students in view of the drop in coronavirus cases, following which a section of teachers criticized the university’s decision to call the students. But expressed displeasure. for the premises.

The university had later deferred its decision, with DU registrar Vikas Gupta saying that the Delhi Disaster Management Authority had not issued any guidelines on reopening the campuses.
