“The closure of the slaughterhouse had raised our concerns about the increase in the sale of illegal meat in the city. Also, the operation was important as Eid is near and the demand for meat increases on this occasion,” the official said.
Traders associated with the livestock market in Ghazipur said they were happy with the announcement as their business was at an all-time low after the slaughterhouses were closed on May 30.
Goat, sheep and buffalo are slaughtered to meet the domestic demand in Ghazipur slaughterhouse. “It also caters to the requirement of Delhi Zoo, embassies and dhabas. If the situation continues for a long time, it could lead to a steep rise in prices after summer,” said a trader.

“We are grateful to the LG who helped resolve the issue. We met him on Tuesday and he assured to look into the matter seriously. Thousands of people associated with the industry become unemployed when the slaughterhouses are closed. We as citizens hope The body should complete all the deficiencies in a time bound manner so that the problem does not happen again.
Arshad Qureshi, president of Delhi Meat Merchants’ Association, said, “We are glad that the slaughterhouse will be operational again as many people prefer to make sacrifices from slaughterhouses on Eid-ul-Azha as they do not have space in their homes.”
