New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan tunnel will be closed for vehicular traffic every Sunday as the authorities have decided to allow pedestrians to travel. 920 Crore project and treat yourself to the mesmerizing artwork inside.

The 1.3 kilometer long tunnel – which was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi – has turned into a selfie point. People are often seen clicking pictures with murals depicting the culture, flora-fauna, zodiac signs and six seasons of India in different parts of the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

The tunnel has facilitated connectivity between central Delhi to the satellite cities of Noida and Ghaziabad. Officials from the International Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) said the artwork inside the facility is “a feast for the eyes” and the public should be allowed to view the splendid work.

ITPO Chairman and Managing Director said, “We have decided to keep the tunnel closed for traffic on every Sunday for the time being and allow the public to see the mesmerizing artwork. Pedestrians will be allowed to move around. This arrangement will be done on Sundays. will be applicable from now on.” Director LC Goyal told PTI on June 24.

The idea of ​​closing the tunnel to traffic for a few hours on Sunday was suggested by PM Modi himself, who said that school children and others should be allowed to roam and appreciate it.

“Since Sunday is a holiday, the traffic volume remains low. The other five underpasses will remain open so that traffic flow is not hampered due to tunnel closure. Passengers can also use the traditional routes of Bhairon Marg, ITO and Mathura Road. “Reach your destination,” said a Public Works Department (PWD) official.

The official said that guards will be deployed at the entry and exit points of the facility so that visitors do not face any inconvenience.
