Demanded basic facilities in the complaint day meeting

On Tuesday, during the grievance redressal meeting held at the corporation zone four office, there was an uproar regarding the demands of basic facilities.

Madurai (South) MLA S. Bominathan, Mayor Indirani Ponvasant, Corporation Commissioner Simranjit Singh Kahlon, Deputy Mayor T Nagarajan, Corporation Zone IV Chairman Mukesh Sharma were present.

AIADMK councilor (ward 88) M. Prema alleged that the absence of underground drainage system in Ganga Nagar, Thai Nagar and Swami Sonaiya Nagar was troubling residents.

AIADMK corporator (ward 30) A Vasanthadevi petitioned to post a separate valve operator. “Valves need to be operated properly but the timing is not regulated. Not doing regular rounds is also an issue. This leads to water supply in many houses causing distress to the residents. needs to be done as the summer is very harsh,” she said.

AIADMK corporator (ward 89) S Kavitha demanded to make panels to repair dilapidated bridge at the entrance of Chintamani area. “Since the abutment walls of the bridge were damaged, it also led to the death of a person recently. It should be rebuilt immediately as many people still depend on it for daily transportation,” he said .

DMK corporator (ward 41) K. Senthamarai Kannan demanded de-silting of Panaiyur, Sottathatti and Kadhiyanur channels, construction of ward councilor offices and expediting the laying of pipelines under the Mullaperiyar drinking water project, as this was delaying the road construction work.

Meanwhile, P. Shanmugavel, representing eight more residents in Thiagaraja Nagar in Anuppanadi, alleged that water supply to their homes has been disrupted for over a year. “As more houses came up in the area, the water consumption increased. But the officials, especially the grassroots workers, are not bothered to ensure water supply to all the households. We are forced to buy water and still struggle with lack of basic amenities.

The mayor administered the oath to the officers and petitioners present as a part of celebrating World Malaria Day.

Later, Ms. Indirani and Mr. Kahlon inspected various works done in Zone IV, which included cleaning of UGD in Teachers Colony, cleaning of channel passing through Babu Nagar.

In addition, the team reviewed the repair of overhead water tank at Iravatanallur, repair of corporation toilets at MGR Nagar, Urban Primary Health Center at Anupanadi, upcoming classroom building at Corporation High School at Anupanadi and Integrated Child Development Center located nearby. Instructed the officers to speed up the repair work.

City engineer S. Arasu, City Health Officer S. Vinoth Kumar and others were present.
