Dengue cases cross 8,000 in Delhi

1,148 cases reported last week; The season total is the highest since 2015; Death toll 9. remains on

The capital recorded 1,148 dengue cases in the last one week (till November 27), taking this month’s caseload to 6,739. The season’s total cases have reached 8,276, the highest since 2015 when the city reported nearly 16,000 cases. The death toll has risen to nine.

North Delhi saw the highest number of 273 cases last week, followed by South Delhi with 242 cases and East Delhi with 192 cases.

Till November 20, Delhi had recorded 7,128 cases. Between November 13 and 20, North Delhi reported 543 cases, followed by South Delhi with 444 cases, while East Delhi reported 221 cases.

Most of Delhi’s dengue cases for this season were reported in November. In October, 1,196 cases were reported in the capital, while 217 cases were reported in September.

“Dengue cases have declined sharply, but people should continue to monitor mosquito breeding sites in their homes. Stoppage of rain has been a major factor in the decline in cases,” said a civic body official.

In the current season, North Delhi reported 2,389 cases, followed by South Delhi with 2,298 cases. East Delhi has reported 931 cases, which is the lowest among the three municipal corporations.

Apart from corporations, the New Delhi Municipal Council reported 72 cases for this season, while Delhi Cantonment and other areas recorded 132 and 17 cases respectively.

“We are hardly seeing any new case, not even for consultation in OPD. There are no new admissions either. The drop in cases can be attributed to change in weather,” said a doctor at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

In this season, a total of 2,437 cases remain unsolved even after investigation.
