Despite instructions, private schools in Delhi did not admit EWS children: NCPCR

NCPR (Representational Image) says private schools in Delhi did not admit some children under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.

It has been observed that despite strict instructions to the authorities and branches involved in ensuring admission of candidates under EWS/DG and CWSN category, they have not been admitted till date.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Friday said that despite its directions, private schools in Delhi did not admit some children from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. In a letter to the Chief Secretary of Delhi, the NCPCR sought details of EWS admissions in private schools from the 2020-21 academic year onwards.

It has been observed that despite strict instructions to the authorities and branches involved in ensuring admission of candidates under EWS/DG and CWSN category, they have not been admitted till date.

“Later on, you are requested to provide the following details for the academic year 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23: year-wise vacancy for EWS/ DG category candidates, seats allotted against vacancy, and the total number of children admitted against the allotted seats in private schools in Delhi,” it said.

The commission also asked how many seats remained vacant in the respective year after the admission of children against the allotted seats. “The requisite response with the details mentioned may kindly be submitted to the Commission within seven days of the receipt of this letter, NCPCR has written to the Chief Secretary, Delhi.
