Actor Dhanush renders new song in Ilaiyaraaja’s music for director Vetrimaaran’s film Viduthalai,
Dhanush has sung a song in the film, onnoda nadantha, kallana kaadu puthadum povanam agidumeAlong with Ananya Bhat and audio has been released. The lyrics of the song are penned by film director Suka. The story is by writer Jayamohan.
“Periyavar (Ilaiyaraaja) specifically says that I should write the lyrics. When director Vetrimaaran told me that he (Ilaiyaraaja) was waiting for me, I ran to his studio. I did not know that I would be asked to write a song,” said Suka, who is one of the associate directors of Balumahendra. Vetrimaaran worked with the late cinematographer and director.
The video of Ilaiyaraaja teaching Dhanush to sing has gone viral on social media.
“I told Periyavar that I am not a lyricist. But he insisted that whatever I write would be fine for him. I wrote it after Mr. Vetrimaaran explained the situation to the song,” said Mr. Suka.
When asked whether the song was written to a tune composed by Ilaiyaraaja or the tune was composed for the lyrics of the song, Mr. Suka said that he had written for the tune. “I wrote them as phrases,” he said.
It has become a typical Ilaiyaraaja score, with emphasis on the lyrics, while the background music flows smoothly.
