If diesel gets inside a petrol car, it can damage the engine. Due to the less refined nature of diesel, the spark plugs will jam. In addition, engine air filters are not diesel friendly, leading to misfires or fumes causing explosions.

This can cause major damage to the engine. Fuel injectors are well aware of the lubricating capabilities of diesel. Petrol may not provide uniform lubrication. If not recognized immediately, the car begins to emit black smoke through the exhaust, and the car will stop on its own.

Case 1 – Diesel in a petrol car

Much depends on the exact time in which the customer realizes his mistake:

  • If a mistake is detected during filling, it can be very helpful. If diesel is less than 5%, petrol can be poured over it. Diesel dissolves in petrol, and the car can run smoothly.
  • If a mistake is discovered after filling it in, there is still time to fix it. The car must be taken to the nearest workshop using the tow service. Then the diesel can be flushed, and the petrol can be refilled correctly.
  • If the engine has been started after filling, turn off the engine as soon as possible. Dump out the diesel and then fill the tank with petrol.

  • If the car has been driven for some time, the customer has to take an expensive ride. After some time the petrol spreads in every nook and corner of the engine. Thus, a professional may also suggest engine replacement. However, this can be a very expensive proposition.
