In a fiery country like India, Holi, like the colors involved, offers many varieties of its own depending on the region. Here we have compiled a list of different forms of Holi which are celebrated all over India.

Lathmar Holi

One of the most popular forms of Holi in India is the one where men are seen covering their heads with repeated repetition of lathis (sticks) by women. This tradition is prevalent in areas like Vrindavan, Mathura, Barsana and Nandgaon.

yosang

Yosang, celebrated for six days in Manipur, involves taking out processions around a bamboo hut and deities and devotees. In the initial days the air is filled with chants and hymns and finally, on the last day, the bamboo huts that house the idols are burnt. After this, people play with colors and dance while singing praises of Lord Krishna.

Dola

Like Yosang, this festival also lasts for five-seven days and is played in some parts of Odisha. People take out a journey with their deities. After a four-day long journey, people celebrate the completion by applying colors to each other.

shigmo

Celebrated with fervor every year on the shores of Goa, Shigmo is a 14-day traditional festival that marks the arrival of spring. Farmers happily welcome the season and play with colors amidst music and cheer.

Rang Panchami or Fagunwa

This is the most common and popular form of Holi and is widely celebrated in various states of India. However, it is mainly celebrated in North India. This collection of colors, thandai, gujiya, and of course, friends and family, guarantees an energizing experience.
