Direct Admission to PhD Program of IIT Delhi for BTech students of NIT Sikkim

NS Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi Now BTech students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim will be allowed direct admission to PhD programs of the institute without qualifying GATE or any other national level examination.

IIT Delhi has signed an MoU with NIT Sikkim in this regard. It will also facilitate faculty and student exchange programs between the two institutions. Graduate students from NIT Sikkim with a CGPA of 8 at the end of their sixth semester will be eligible to apply for a summer project at IIT Delhi and complete their final year there.

Since they will enter IIT Delhi with a minimum CGPA of 8.00, the GATE requirement for Ph.D. has been waived. They are expected to demonstrate substantial aptitude in research and research during their seventh and eighth semesters of the B.Tech course. After completing their fourth year at IIT Delhi, students will be considered for early admission to PhD programs of IIIT Delhi based on their academic performance. NIT students have to pay regular academic fee at IIT Delhi.

There will be a student exchange program not only for BTech students, but also for MTech, MSc students and research scholars. Faculty exchange program will also be organized. A mentorship program in which faculty members from IIT Delhi will act as consultants for each department of NIT Sikkim will be facilitated. This will help in exchange of faculty and staff at the departmental level. This can be done in both online and offline mode.

Welcoming the MoU with NIT Sikkim, Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi said, “At IIT Delhi, the students of NIT Sikkim will get to experience world-class research infrastructure which, I believe, will shape their careers.
