‘Disturbing thumbnails’: Tollywood plays fake news, content on YT channels

Tollywood director Thammareddy Bharadwaj has hit out at YouTube channels and their owners who run fake news, misleading headlines and objectionable content against several celebrities of the film fraternity.

Every other day, many YouTube channels are coming up with fake, manipulative thumbnails and news stories to make more money from views and clicks.

The bigwigs of the Telugu film industry took action against this and held a meeting recently and asked the media to stop the spread of fake news.

Speaking further on the issue, Thammareddy said that celebrities are also human beings and now it is ideal to spread false news about them on social media. He said that in recent times such news has become more and more prevalent on social media and fake news is being spread.

Everyone has a family. Stating that such fake news is very shameful, he added that the media is being influenced by such false news just for the sake of views. “Many people are even declared dead and they create fake relationships between celebrities. They are harassing us with harassing thumbnails and videos,” said Thammareddy.

Similarly, there is a need to control such fake news, Thamreddy said. He also said that it is necessary to follow the rules on social media. Criticizing content is okay but targeting personally is not okay and will not be tolerated.

The director concluded by saying that people should make money in the right way and not spread negative rumors about celebrities.

“As an industry, we condemn this trend and demand YouTube channels to stop it. I hope they will consider our request,” Thammareddy said.
