‘Saheb’s advice should not have been accepted’
Recalling Deepak Kumar’s promises on 5 December 1994, “Shamil, I should not have obeyed Saheb that day.” He said, “We were coming back from Hajipur after a meeting in 1994. That’s when the mob attacked us. It is very difficult to pin down who were there. The mob first pulled out Krishnaiah sir’s bodyguard from the ambassador car. Pulled over. I didn’t stop the car and tried to move ahead of the crowd, but Sir asked me to stop the car as he wanted to save his bodyguard who was left behind.

“As soon as I stopped the car, the mob attacked us,” said Deepak Kumar. “I managed to save my life. After some time when I came back, I saw the head in the pits. There was blood all around. We took him to the hospital.” They said, “Krishnaiah sir always thought about us.”

IAS officers were attacked on the evening of 5 December 1994 in a village on the outskirts of Muzaffarpur city by a mob demonstrating with the body of Chhotan Shukla, another judge-politician from Anand Mohan’s party. Chhotan Shukla was murdered a day before the incident.
