Leaders say if RN Ravi wants to express such views to please BJP leadership then he should step down

Accusing Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi of deliberately expressing views to create confusion, leaders of the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance on October 30, 2022 said if he would do such a thing to please the BJP leadership, If they want to express their views, they should step down.

“His speeches are given importance as he is the governor of the state. If he is expressing views to please the BJP leadership to get a higher post for himself, then he should step down from the post of Governor. As long as he remains the governor of the state, he could not express such views,” the alliance leaders said in a joint statement.

DMK treasurer TR Baalu, Dravida Kazhagam president K. Veeramani, TNCC president KS Alagiri, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI(M) state secretary K. Balakrishnan, CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan, IUML leader Kader Mohideen, VCK leader Tho. Thirumavalavan, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader MH Jawahirullah, Kongu Nadu Desiya Katchi general secretary ER Easwaran and Tamilaga Vazhurimai Katchi leader T Velmurugan have signed the statement.

He said that Sri Ravi had been expressing controversial views ever since he became the governor of the state. “It is not clear whether he is doing this to create unnecessary controversy and confusion or is motivated by a desire to draw attention to them,” he said.

The leaders said that their views on Santhana Dharma, Ariyam, Dravida, Scheduled Castes and Thirukkural were dangerous and absurd. “We have no problem with him if he speaks about his personal spiritual beliefs. But it is unfair on his part to express conservative and toxic views while holding a constitutional post,” he added.

He alleged that the governor has not changed and has continued to express views without considering the countermeasures of his arguments. He said, ‘He is speaking against the Constitution. Does he know that he is acting against the oath taken as the governor of the state? The leaders wanted to know.

Objecting to the governor’s contention that a country should follow one religion, he said Nepal, which claimed to be a Hindu nation, was in fact a federal parliamentary republic.

The governor should stop speaking against the preamble of the constitution. The country is secular as per the constitution. But the governor argues in favor of one religion and it is against the constitution.
