A generic male condom, also known as an external condom, is one of the popular means of birth control that is known to all. It’s not financially taxing, it’s extremely easy to use, and provides additional protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) during sex.

The condom is twisted and used as a barrier so that sperm cannot fertilize the woman’s egg or transfer the virus in the case of an STI. It is generally found to be effective in 99% of the cases. Reportedly, they are absolutely safe to use, except in some cases, where it may cause some side effects. Here is a list of things you should be prepared for if you normally use condoms during intercourse.

Allergies

Condoms are made using thin latex (rubber), polyurethane, or polyisoprene, which are designed to prevent pregnancy by blocking sperm from fertilizing a woman’s egg. However, latex can also trigger allergies in any partner involved in intercourse. It can also cause rashes, hives and runny nose. In extremely severe patients, the allergen can also constrict the respiratory airway and in turn lower the person’s blood pressure. If you or your partner is allergic to latex, you should use a polyurethane or lambskin condom. However, the other two are a bit more expensive than the normal latex ones.

low sensitivity

Condoms commonly available in the market these days are extra thin to increase sensitivity during intercourse. Still, some people complain of little or no sensitivity when using condoms. They claim that pleasure during intercourse is reduced due to latex, which becomes a hindrance.

unwanted pregnancy and disease

Condoms are used as contraceptives but are not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy and STIs. During intercourse, if the condom is damaged or comes off, there is a risk of pregnancy and STIs. This is usually due to excessive friction.

to slide

A male condom is twisted and must be taken out immediately after ejaculation. Once the penis loses its erection, the condom slips and releases semen into the vagina, which can lead to unwanted pregnancies and STIs.
