Don’t fall for BJP in hijab controversy: Rahul Gandhi to Karnataka Congress

Congress will launch a public agitation to highlight the failures of the Karnataka government.

new Delhi:

Congress’ Rahul Gandhi today asked party leaders in Karnataka not to play into the hands of the BJP in its plan to polarize the state through the hijab issue. The BJP-ruled state – where controversy over the use of headscarfs in educational institutions has emerged as a divisive issue – is headed for assembly elections next year.

At a meeting with senior party leaders from Karnataka – including leaders of the opposition in both houses of the state assembly, the party’s state unit chief and other office-bearers – Mr Gandhi asked that they focus on core governance issues. He said the Bommai government had failed to implement them.

Senior party leader Randeep Surjewala said after an in-camera meeting in Delhi that the Congress is planning to organize several mass agitations to highlight the failures of the BJP government in the state.

He said the leaders plan to highlight the crypto currency scam, 40 percent corruption in government contracts, lack of employment, rising prices and various local issues.

“Now that the assembly elections are only 14 months away, those issues were discussed as preparation for the elections,” Surjewala told reporters.

The mega meeting took place amid divisions within the state between senior leaders who feel that the BJP is succeeding in polarizing people and the party needs clarity on the issue, especially given the recent hijab-related protests and violence. Seeing it.

Officially, the party has not talked much on the hijab issue, saying that the matter is pending in court.

Mr Gandhi had earlier condemned the controversy, saying the country was “robbing the future of its daughters” by preventing it from getting in the way of their education.

She had also tweeted with the hashtag “#SaraswatiPooja”, “Maa Saraswati gives knowledge to all. She does not differentiate.”

State Congress chief DK Shivakumar, former chief minister Siddaramaiah and other leaders have assured Mr Gandhi that if the Congress works together, it will be able to succeed and defeat the BJP in next year’s assembly elections.
