Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said that it was only after a legal battle that Karnataka got permission to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Kalasa Banduri Nala project.

Speaking to reporters in Hubballi on Tuesday, Mr. Bommai was responding to a question on Goa’s statement of launching a legal battle over the central government’s approval of the DPR.

Mr. Bommai said: “As per the direction of the Supreme Court, the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal was constituted, which delivered its award in 2017 and subsequently a gazette notification was issued. All this happened after a long legal battle. Now the DPR has been approved and the project will be implemented.

The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Bengaluru on February 6 to inaugurate the International Conference on India Energy Week and later he would inaugurate the helicopter manufacturing unit of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at Bidarhalli in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district.

On the Raita Shakti scheme, which he launched on Tuesday, Mr. Bommai said the scheme aims to benefit lakhs of farmers in the state by subsidizing diesel to farmers and for the use of farm equipment.
