Dr. Aggarwal Eye Hospital will invest ₹730 crore. on expansion plans

City-based Dr Agarwal Eye Hospital Ltd plans to invest around ₹730 crore in India and abroad to build 38 new hospitals and over 100 primary eye care centers over the next three years.

“As part of our expansion strategy, we will open 35 hospitals in India and one each in Tanzania, Kenya and Nigeria,” CEO Adil Agarwal said in an interview.

According to him, the hospital is focusing on emerging markets such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Tamil Nadu and Gujarat will get 10 hospitals each, while Maharashtra will get about 15 hospitals. While new hospitals in Gujarat and Maharashtra will be set up in 12 months, Tamil Nadu will take longer.

Rs 200 crore each will be invested in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, Rs 150 crore in Gujarat and Rs 100 crore in Kerala to set up 10 eye care centres. The foreign investment would be around Rs 80 crore.

When asked about the funding pattern, he said that recently they raised Rs 1,050 crore from TPG Growth to fund expansion plans.

Currently, the eye-care chain manages 135 hospitals in its network, of which 114 are in India and the rest are in Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
