Draupadi Murmu is all set to take oath as the 15th President of India today

The newly-elected President of India, who hails from the tribal community and was the governor of Jharkhand, Draupadi Murmu, is set to take oath of the top constitutional office on Monday. The swearing-in ceremony of Rashtrapati Bhavan will be held in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Murmu will be accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the Central Hall for the oath ceremony. The national anthem will be played after he reaches there and Chief Justice of India NV Ramana will administer the oath of office to him today.

The former governor of Jharkhand registered a historic victory over opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election on July 22. With this, she became the first tribal woman candidate and the second woman in the country to occupy India’s highest constitutional position.

The results of the presidential election were announced on Thursday, revealing that Murmu He secured 2,824 votes against his rival Yashwant Sinha, who secured only 1,877 votes. A total of 4,809 MPs and MLAs cast their votes in the polling held on July 18.

After the declaration of the results, PC Modi, Secretary General of Rajya Sabha and Returning Officer for Presidential Elections 2022, handed over the certificate to President-elect Draupadi Murmu at her residence in the national capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind and senior BJP leaders conveyed congratulatory messages to Murmu on his historic victory. PM Modi said that she has emerged as a beacon of hope for the citizens, while Kovind wished her a successful tenure at the highest office of the country.

Meanwhile, the original location of Draupadi MurmuRairangpur in Odisha began celebrations in anticipation of his victory and a huge crowd gathered outside the BJP headquarters to celebrate his victory.

In 1997, Murmu started his political career by joining BJP and was elected as councilor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat for the first time. She then became the president of the same panchayat in 2000 and later, was appointed as the vice-president of the BJP Scheduled Tribes Morcha. In 2007, she was awarded the Neelkanth Award for Best MLA in the Odisha Legislative Assembly and became the first woman governor of Jharkhand in 2015.
