The official told PTI about the change in the dress code, which states that students will be provided with ‘angavastram’ and there will be no graduation cap or gown.

Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh said, ‘The gown was there for a long time. The university felt the need to change course. Students will be dressed in ‘angavastras’ and officers will be dressed in khadi silk, a return to their roots.” While it will not be mandatory for students to wear Indian attire, the university urges them to opt for traditional wear such as kurtas and sarees. “This year, instead of gowns or gowns, we have decided to adopt the traditional style with different colored robes for students of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses,” the official told PTI.

He said that all the officers including the chief guest would be given traditional clothes made of Khadi silk.

The matter was presented before the Executive Council in December 2022. “The move was appreciated by everyone in the meeting,” the official said.

The convocation ceremony will begin at 9.30 am at the Multipurpose Hall of Delhi University Play Stadium Complex, the notification said.
